I absolutely love the deep blue of the ocean. The ocean for me is such a mirror of my soul. There are so many waves, which remind me of the ups and downs in life. I grew up in Germany and now I live on the beach in Thailand. I sleep with the door open so I can be present with the waves. Going deep within, I get to explore more of me.
We can’t shine our light into the world until we go deep within ourselves…
When I was a kid growing up in Eastern Germany, I lived in a little village near Leipzig with my parents and two sisters. Being the older one, I often took on a bit too much responsibility. My sisters were five and eight years younger than me. I did my best to shine my wisdom for them so they could shine.
I was the older and wiser one in their world. In my mind, I always knew better. I always knew what to do and of course I wanted to protect them and empower them to shine their own light into the world.
Learning from achieving key life successes and overcoming major hardships has a remarkable impact on our unique genius. Positive Psychology proves that the awareness of core strengths is leading to an increased perception of self-confidence, motivation, engagement, productivity, and probability of achieving goals.
2012 was the year I started my realization process of my unique passions, strengths, and abilities. Clarifying these led me to focus my time more effectively on the things I cared about. Once I understood my genius (my unique ability and contribution to the world) my purpose, I was able to pursue a fulfilling and impactful career.
The clearer I became the more I understood my inner calling. I felt productive and fulfilled on a daily basis and I realized that I could design the life of my dreams.
What helped me to get more clarity?
I embarked on a journey of self-exploration and reflection. In every career step I took, I periodically reviewed my strengths and weaknesses as well as the things that provided me with more or less energy.
I read many books on personal development, listened to podcasts and did some online courses. Coaching myself was the most impactful personal development part of my journey of self discovery.
Currently I have a highly skilled executive coach and a broad range of inspiring mentors supporting me on the journey to live a life in my genius.
Today I can headline my genius and use it as a compass to guide me towards every life and work decision I make. Crystalizing it in the phrase: “I shine my light into the world and help others to do the same.” I am at my very best when I follow my genius — my light — which is destined to create a positive impact in the world. When I am doing this, I can support others to ignite their genius, too.
Every time I ask myself, “Does this activity, project or opportunity allow me to live in my zone of genius?” I create a well lit pathway for myself. If there are many options aligned to my genius, I tune inwards and ask, “Which option is most aligned with my inner genius?”
I ask questions and trust the answers.
